Temperature
The average maximum temperature during August 2025 in Shoreham was 23.1 Celsius (73F), and that was around 0.5 Celsius (>1F) above normal. The average minimum temperature was 14.2 Celsius (58F), and that was close to the monthly average. Overall, August 2025 was the 11th warmest in the area since 1880, but 3 out of the last 5 Augusts were warmer, although temperatures were similar to those of August in the legendary Summer of 1976.
The highest temperature measured during the month was 29.1 Celsius (84F) on the 12th, but 28.6 Celsius (83F) occurred on the 11th, and 28.2 Celsius (83F) was recorded on the 15th. The only other day when the temperature rose above 25 Celsius (77F) was the 19th, when 26.1 Celsius (79F) occurred. On most other days the maximum temperature ranged from 21 to 25 Celsius (70-77F). There were just 2 exceptions. On the 28th a high of 20.7 Celsius (69F) occurred, and on the 4th the temperature only reached 19.5 Celsius (67F).
There were no exceptionally warm nights during August, but a minimum of 18.4 Celsius (65F) occurred on the 12th, with 18.1 Celsius (65F) recorded on the 13th. A further 3 nights, the 14th, 18th and 27th, had minima above 17 Celsius (63F). On most other nights (19) the minimum temperature ranged from 11 to 15 Celsius (52-59F). Only 1 cooler night occurred, and that was on the 22nd , when 9.7 Celsius (49F) was recorded.
The sea temperature was 19 or 20 Celsius (66-68F) throughout the month.
Frost
No frosts occurred during August. The lowest grass minimum temperature was 5.0 Celsius (41F) on the 22nd.
Rain
Rainfall during August amounted to 24.2 millimetres (0.95 inches), which was around 40% of the monthly average. Measurable rain fell on 7 days, which was 5 days below normal for August, and wet days (when 1 millimetre (0.04 ins.), or more, of rain falls) numbered 3, which was 6 days below average for the month. Rain and drizzle produced 0.6 millimetres (0.02 ins.) on the 4th, but this was the only measurable rain that occurred between the 1st and the 25th. The weather then turned changeable for the remainder of the month, with showers occurring from mid-morning on the 26th; and a longer spell of rain and drizzle fell during the afternoon and evening of the 30th. Some of the showers were heavy, especially during the evening of the 27th, around mid morning on the 28th, and early in the morning on the 29th. Daily rainfall totals for the last 6 days of August included 2.6 millimetres (0.1 ins.) on the 27th, 16.6 millimetres (0.65 ins.) on the 28th and 3.2 millimetres (0.13 ins.) on the 30th.

Snow
No sleet or snow occurred in this part of Shoreham.
Wind
The weather pattern during the first three and a half weeks of August was mainly anticyclonic, with the centres of the high pressure mainly to the west and north of the country. As a result, winds often blew from a northwesterly quadrant, although several east or northeasterly days occurred after mid month. Overall, winds were mostly moderate during this period, but the last week of the month was more cyclonic and generally breezier with southwesterly winds dominating. At Shoreham Airport, southwesterly winds gusted to 35 knots (42 mph) on the afternoon of the 4th, but no further gusts above 30 knots (34 mph) occurred until late in the evening of the 28th, when southwesterly gusts reached 31 knots (35 mph). A gust of 32 knots (36 mph), once again from the southwest, occurred after daybreak on the 29th. Several gusts of 31 knots (35 mph) from a southerly direction were recorded on the evening of the 30th, but no further gusts above 30 knots (34 mph) occurred during the rest of the month.
Fog
Misty low cloud occurred late in the afternoon on the 12th, but no fog was observed.
